UCONS is a national leader in the development and implementation of residential and small commercial conservation programs focusing upon both water and energy conservation measures. In the small commercial sector, UCONS has successfully developed and implemented laundry programs to promote a wider and earlier acceptance of the most efficient washers.
In the residential sector, UCONS has provided extensive programs to renters and mobile home customers. These customer classes have proven difficult to serve through traditional rebate or market transformation programs due to split incentives whereby the person paying the energy bill does not have the necessary incentives or capabilities to make capital improvements which mitigate energy usage. In the past 20 years, UCONS has provided direct install energy efficiency programs to over 300,000 renters and mobile home customers in California, Texas, New York, Utah, Washington and Oregon.
