Panther Valley School District Partners with Schneider Electric to Improve Energy Efficiency, Reduce Costs
DALLAS – April 19, 2011 – The Panther Valley School District, located in Lansford, PA, is investing in a series of building improvements to reduce costs and environmental impact through a $3.3 million performance contract with Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management. Through performance contracting, the Panther Valley School District can achieve long-term benefits such as improved facility efficiency, occupant comfort, financial management and environmental protection.
The project includes HVAC equipment replacement, building automation system improvements, envelope air sealing to prevent heat loss, as well as a gym lighting retrofit at the Panther Valley High School and Elementary School. As a result of the system upgrades, which were completed in August 2010, energy savings achieved in this project will total $1,582,605 over the life of the project. These energy savings will be equivalent to preventing over 491,810 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere each year or planting approximately 224 acres of trees.
The Panther Valley School District, which comprises approximately 1,700 students, and 135 teachers and administrators, turned to Schneider Electric to replace multizone rooftop HVAC units at the high school with new units that can fit existing roof curbs, eliminating the need for structural modifications, as well as installing new return ductwork to meet fire safety codes. The cooling coils and roof-mounted condensing units in the high school auditorium have also been replaced. Schneider Electric is also retrofitting the lighting system in the high school and elementary school gymnasiums with new high bay fluorescent lighting.
